Greece confirms 6,150 new Co infections on Wed., 49 deaths; 431 on ventilators

Greece confirmed 6,150 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, with 8 of these identified at entry points to the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Wednesday.

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 760,592 infections (daily change: +0.8 pct). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 148 infections are related to travel from abroad and 2,556 to other confirmed cases.

There are also 49 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of pandemic victims to 16,109. Of these, 95.4 pct had an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or over.

A total of 431 patients are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 64 years and 80.3 pct have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or over. Of the total, 363 (84.22 pct) are unvaccinated or partly vaccinated and 68 (15.78 pct) are fully vaccinated.

Another 3,328 have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

In addition, 343 Co-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: +6.85 pct). The average admission of patients with Co-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 300.

The median age of new infections is 38 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 78 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).

Northern Greece continues to lead in the number of infections, with 999 in Thessaloniki alone, on Wednesday. In Athens, the highest daily numbers of new infections was noted in the central and northern metropolitan sector of Athens (376 and 226, respectively), while Piraeus had 172 new infections.

In central Greece, Larissa (427) and the Magnissia Region (234) led in new infections, while on the islands only Corfu registered a high number of new infections on Wednesday (93).
