Rugby World Cup: Why Wales and Brittany anthems sound the same

Ειδήσεις Ελλάδα

Some French fans may feel déjà vu when the Welsh national anthem rings out at the Wales-Georgia Rugby World Cup game in Nantes.

Brittany has 220,000 Breton speakers and their national anthem uses the same music as the Welsh one.

Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau was composed in Wales in the 19th Century, with the music borrowed and the lyrics loosely translated for an anthem for Wales’ Celtic cousins.

Bro Gozh Ma Zadoù even translates to Land Of My Fathers – the same meaning as the anthem Wales fans will sing at Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday.

Wales face Georgia in their final group game as they try to secure top spot in Pool C.
