Victory Day unfolds quietly in Ukraine as Putin defends invasion

Ειδήσεις Ελλάδα

The Pulitzer Prizes on Monday honored the journalists of Ukraine with a special citation “for their courage, endurance, and commitment to truthful reporting” during Russia’s invasion and “propaganda war.”

“Despite bombardment, abductions, occupation, and even deaths in their ranks,” the Pulitzer board wrote online, “they have persisted in their effort to proe an accurate picture of a terrible reality, doing honor to Ukraine and to journalists around the world.”

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded with gratitude and praised their country’s journalists. “Thank you for showing the truth to the whole world,” the ministry tweeted.

The annual Pulitzer Prizes seek to recognize the best in journalism, as well as books, drama and music. Recipients of “special citations and awards” in recent years include Darnella Frazier — the teenager whose cellphone brought worldwide attention to the murder of George Floyd — and investigative reporter Ida B. Wells, who documented lynching and racism in the United States during the 1800s and 1900s.
