Survivors and loved ones will require access to mental health services, said Sohee Park, a professor in the psychology department at Vanderbilt University.
“Who will remember to care for the broken moms and dads whose lives were destroyed in one night?” she said.
“Some survivors will likely have post-traumatic stress disorder. Many will feel survivors’ guilt. members will also be traumatized. Many will experience physical illness as well,” Park told The Washington Post.
The fact that the crowd crush was caused by humans, and could have been prevented, will make the event difficult to accept, she said. In situations like this, “The human mind generates counterfactuals — what if this had happened, what if they had done this, what if, what if,” she said.
