The Department for Education (DfE) says it proes a range of support for care leavers to make the move from care to independent living as smooth as possible, and that the allowance for those leaving care has recently risen from £2,000 to £3,000. This can be put towards purchasing essentials, such as furniture or white goods, when they move into their first home.
