Ex-world cycling champion Rohan Dennis charged over death of Olympian wife Melissa Hoskins – reports |

Former world cycling champion Rohan Dennis has been charged with causing the death of his wife, the retired Olympic cyclist Melissa Hoskins, according to reports.

South Australia Police were called to the suburb of Medindie, Adelaide, after a woman was hit by a car at around 8pm local time on Saturday.

The 32-year-old was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries and died overnight.

Police have not named the woman who died or the man who was arrested following the collision.

However, it is being widely reported in the country that they are the former Australian professional cyclists.

Dennis, 33, was reportedly arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care and endangering life.

He was bailed to appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court in March, according to Australian media.

The couple married in 2018 and had two children.

Dennis recently posted a photo of himself and Hoskins with their two children on Instagram with the comment: “Merry Christmas from our family to yours.”

Hoskins, born in Kalamunda, western Australia, was a retired track and road racing cyclist who was a member of the pursuit team that finished fourth at the 2012 Olym in London.

She was also part of the pursuit team which finished fifth at the Rio Olym in 2016.

Dennis, from Adelaide, was part of the Australian team that won silver at the 2012 Olym.

He later won back to back UCI men’s indiual time trial championships in 2018 and 2019.
