New Greek agreements for bulk carriers

Ειδήσεις Ελλάδα

Minerva Shipmanagement announced the renaming of the company to MyBulk Shipmanagement, entering a new era. The shipping company recently received the modern bulk carrier, kamsarmax type, Meltemi (formerly Kuno Oldendorff), with a capacity of 82,206 DWT and built in 2022.

According to “Naftemporiki” sources, the company has launched its expansion plans.

In particular, the strategic plan includes more kamsarmaxes with an environmentally friendly design, built from 2020 onwards.

MyBulk Shipmanagement’s active fleet consists of three bulk carriers, two kamsarmaxes built in 2016 and 2022 and one panamax built in 2012.

New vessels

At the same time, in the last few days certain orders of bulk carriers in China from “low profile” Greek shipping companies became known.

Novamaris Inc. has reportedly, according to data platform Equasis, reached an agreement with Chinese shipyard Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering to build two ultramaxes, each with a capacity of 63,500 DWT.

Equasis locates a total of three trucks in the company’s fleet, all panamax types.

Based on the same sources, Alloceans Shipping Co is said to have ordered three ultramaxes from the same yard, with scheduled deliveries until 2026. The latter controls a fleet of 17 bulkers.

First in kamsarmax

Ultramaxes and kamsarmaxes are the two types of bulk carriers that have almost monopolized the shipbuilding agreements signed by Greek shipowners in recent years. A new survey, published by VesselsValue, has shown that “Greeks” account for around 45% of panamaxes and kamsarmaxes orders placed so far in 2024.

One of the last big deals concerns Laskaridis Maritime in China, specifically in the Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu and Hengli Shipbuilding shipyards.

According to data available to “Naftemporiki” from shipping brokerage sources, the Greek shipowners ordered a total of 13 bulk carriers in the first quarter of 2024. On the other hand, in the supramaxes sector, the Chinese are the protagonists, with a 35% share in this year’s deals for newly built ships. HuaXia Financial Leasing recently ordered eight New Dayang Shipbuilding ultramaxes.
