Milan plane crash: All eight people on board reported dead after tragedy near subway station |

A small private plane carrying eight people has crashed into a vacant office building in Milan, reportedly killing all in board.

Six passengers, including a boy, and two members of the crew perished in the collision, authorities have said.

Investigators are looking into into what caused the small, single-engine plane to crash shortly after take off from Milan’s Linate airport en route to Olbia Airport on the Italian island of Sardinia.

Firefighters reported no one else was involved in the crash, which took place near a subway station in San Donato Milanese, a small town near Milan.

Milan prosecutor Tiziana Siciliano said the plane was proceeding on its flight until “a certain point, then an anomaly appeared on the radar screen and it plunged”, striking the building’s roof.

Control tower officials reported the anomaly, she said, but the plane did not send out an alarm.

It is too early to cite any possible cause for the crash however, the flight recorder has been retrieved.

Ms Siciliano confirmed those aboard were “all foreigners”, including the pilot who was Romanian. The aircraft was registered in Romania.

Two of the eight have been identified due to the documents on their person.

Several cars in a nearby parking lot were set on fire by the crash but were unoccupied at the time.

A thick column of dark smoke was visible from the crash site from several kilometres away.

The now-charred building was reportedly under renovation.
