Greek stocks end 1.47% higher

Greek stocks ended significantly higher on the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday moving in line with an upward trend prevailing in other European markets. Traders said market sentiment was encouraged by a Goldman Sachs’ report saying that S&P could upgrade the country’s credit rating on April 21.

The general index of the market jumped 1.47% to close at 1,045.84 points. The Large Cap index ended 1.48% up and the Mid Cap index rose 0.62%. Turnover was 67.51 million euros in volume of 26,833,376 shares.

Motor Oil (7.27%), Viohalco (4.48%), Sarantis (4.45%) and Aegean Airlines (3.40%) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while GEK Terna (-1.26%) and Ellaktor (-0.25%) suffered losses. Among market sectors, Oil (6.04%) and Raw Materials (3.92%) moved up, while Financial Services (-0.16%) moved down.

Alpha Bank and Eurobank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, advancers led decliners by 77 to 26 with another 19 issues unchanged.

Epilektos (11.54%) and VIS (10.49%) were top gainers, while Nakas (-5.88%) and Lazaridis Estate (-2.94%) were toip losers.
